Common technical questions on rigging, charging, and marine setup

Which BMS rating should I choose: 60A or 100A?
Choose the 60A option if you run a single 24V freshwater trolling motor rated between 45 lbs and 80 lbs thrust (up to 1200W). Select the 100A option if you have twin motors, high-thrust 80-112+ lbs tournament motors, or heavy gear requiring spot-lock in swift river currents.
How does the Smart JBD Bluetooth monitoring work on the water?
Download the companion JBD BMS app on iOS or Android and connect instantly via Bluetooth. You can monitor overall state-of-charge, real-time amp draw, estimated runtime, and individual cell voltages in real time. You can also turn charge or discharge ports on and off straight from your phone without opening your boat deck hatch.
Can I use my existing lead-acid or AGM marine charger?
No. Lead-acid chargers use desulfation stages with variable voltages that can trip the BMS. Every pack includes a dedicated 29.2V 10A LiFePO4 aluminum charger with dual-fuse protection. It delivers the precise CC/CV charge curve required to fully balance all 8S cell banks safely in approximately 6 to 7 hours.
Is this battery protected against wave pounding and splash?
Yes. The internal 80-cell array is structurally reinforced with rigid epoxy spacer boards between every parallel bank to prevent friction wear and internal shorts during choppy boat navigation. The outer layer is sealed in heavy-duty PVC shrink film with a specialized top water-repellent sealant to resist wet bilge splash and marine spray.
How does the battery perform in freezing temperatures?
You can discharge the battery normally in cold conditions down to -20°C (-4°F). However, like all LiFePO4 chemistries, charging below 0°C (32°F) must be avoided. The smart JBD BMS features built-in low-temperature sensor cutoffs to automatically protect the cells against lithium plating during cold snaps.
