Talaria Sting MX3 / Sting R MX4 & XXX Battery Selection Guide
Talaria uses a sealed oil-bath gearbox, so there is no belt to slip. With 50S cells, voltage holds better under hard throttle than with 50G at the same current. Choose by controller first, then by tray shape.
Quick answer: Stock controller, choose 60V. Tuned controller such as Torp or EBMX, choose 72V. Talaria XXX, choose the slim slide-in tier only, approx. 115mm width. Sting MX3 / MX4, choose the top-latch tier.
When you open the custom form, paste your tier name, controller model, and tray measurements into Application Details. The form does not carry your tier automatically.

Oil-Bath Gearbox Advantage
Why Talaria works well with 72V high-discharge power:
- No belt to snap: Enclosed gearbox transfers torque directly, without a belt.
- Peak depends on setup: Up to 28kW peak is for the extreme tier only, and depends on controller and gearbox condition.
- Heat: Battery heat stays away from drivetrain parts, but you still need to check battery temperature under hard use.
Connector Compatibility
Match the connector to your controller and to your BMS current:
- Talaria OEM Discharge Plug: For stock 60V harnesses, if your controller uses it.
- QS8 Anti-Spark Connector: For high-kW 72V upgrades, to reduce arcing.
- Smart Bluetooth BMS: Check temperature and individual cell voltage in the app.
- Anderson SB50 note: Rated 50A. Do not choose it for a 60A or higher tier, choose QS8 or QS10 instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I put a Sur-Ron battery into my Talaria Sting?
A: No. Talaria compartments use different dimensions, guide pins, and discharge connectors. Use a pack made for Talaria tray dimensions.
Q: Why does Talaria XXX require a different battery shape?
A: XXX uses a bottom slide-in tray, approx. 115mm wide. Sting MX3 / MX4 uses a top-latching tray, approx. 155mm wide. XXX packs are made slim to fit that tray.
Q: Do 60V BOOANT batteries work with the stock Talaria charger?
A: Check your charger label. 60V packs here use a 67.2V charger. If your stock charger is also 67.2V, it matches. 72V packs need an 84V charger, included with 72V upgrades.
