Battery Installation Guide
Battery Installation Guide
Step-by-step instructions for mounting, connecting, and testing your new battery.
⚠️ Safety Warning
Lithium batteries store significant energy. Incorrect installation can damage your battery, motor controller, or both — and may create a safety hazard. If you are unsure about any step, stop and contact us. We are here to help.
Before You Begin
Tools You May Need
- Allen key set (3mm, 4mm, 5mm)
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Electrical tape
- Zip ties or cable management clips
- Multimeter (recommended)
- Dielectric grease (optional)
Estimated Time
30–60 minutes
Typical installation for most e-bike frames.
Installation Steps
Verify Compatibility Before Mounting
Before mounting anything, confirm all of the following:
- Voltage matches: Your battery voltage must match your motor controller's rated voltage (e.g., 48V battery → 48V controller).
- Connector type matches: XT60, XT90, Anderson, or barrel — verify before installing.
- Continuous discharge rating: Battery must meet or exceed your controller's maximum current draw.
- Physical dimensions: Battery fits your frame triangle, downtube, or rack mount.
Not sure? See our Compatibility Guide or contact us with your motor specs.
Inspect the Battery
Before mounting, thoroughly inspect your new battery:
- Check casing for cracks, dents, or shipping damage
- Inspect all connectors for bent pins or debris
- Verify all accessories are included: mounting bracket, screws, charger
- If the shipping box arrived damaged, photograph everything and contact us before proceeding
Do not install a damaged battery.
Mount the Bracket
The bracket must be securely attached to your frame. This is the foundation of your installation.
Downtube / Triangle Mount:
- Position bracket and check cable routing, pedal clearance, and center of gravity
- Use bottle cage bosses if available — apply thread locker for vibration resistance
- Tighten firmly — do not overtighten (risk of stripping threads or cracking carbon frames)
- If no mounting bosses exist, use heavy-duty zip ties, rubber-protected hose clamps, or strap mounts
Rack Mount:
- Secure mounting plate to rear rack with provided hardware
- Verify rack is rated for battery weight
- Double-check all fasteners — loose mounts cause rattling and connector stress
Mount the Battery
- Align battery with bracket rails
- Slide battery on smoothly — do not force it
- Listen for the click confirming lock engagement
- Gently tug to verify the battery is locked
- Lock with key if your model includes one, then remove key before riding
Connect to the Motor Controller
This is the most critical electrical connection. Take your time.
- Ensure battery is OFF before connecting
- Align connectors — most are keyed and fit only one way
- Push together firmly until fully seated — XT60/XT90 connectors should click
- Secure connection point with zip ties or connector bracket
- Route cables away from moving parts, pinch points, and heat sources
Pre-Ride Safety Check
Electrical checks:
- Battery is fully charged before first use
- All connectors fully seated and secure
- No exposed wires or damaged insulation
- Display powers on and shows expected voltage
Mechanical checks:
- Battery locked securely to mount
- Mounting bracket tight — no movement
- No rattling when shaking the bike
- Cables do not interfere with steering, pedaling, or suspension
- Battery does not contact frame at full suspension compression
Test ride:
- Start with a short, low-speed ride in a safe area
- Listen for unusual rattling or buzzing
- Test at various speeds and over bumps
- Re-check all connections after test ride
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Battery does not turn on | BMS protection triggered or battery fully discharged | Charge the battery. If still unresponsive, contact us |
| Display does not power on | Loose connection or wrong voltage | Check all connections. Verify voltage compatibility |
| Battery slides off mount | Lock not engaged or bracket misaligned | Re-seat battery and ensure lock clicks into place |
| Connector gets hot during use | Loose connection or insufficient current rating | Disconnect immediately. Check seating and verify current rating |
| Rattling noise while riding | Loose mount, bracket, or cables | Tighten all fasteners and secure loose cables |
