This guide explains the main JBD BMS app screens, what the displayed values mean, and which settings you should leave unchanged to keep your battery working safely. If you are choosing a battery, you can also explore BOOANT lithium battery packs.

Before you start

The screenshots in this article show the real JBD BMS app interface. The numerical values are for demonstration only. Your battery may show different values depending on its series count, cell chemistry, current, BMS model, firmware, and factory settings.

1. Real-Time Battery Monitoring

The real-time monitoring screen gives you a quick overview of how your battery is operating. It is the first place to check when you want to see the battery's current condition.

Remaining battery power

The remaining power percentage is the BMS estimate of the battery's state of charge. For example, 49% means the BMS estimates that approximately 49% of the charge remains. This is an estimate, not a direct measurement of the exact energy left.

Total voltage

Total voltage is the combined voltage of the battery pack. Its normal range depends on the battery's chemistry, series count, and state of charge. A 48V-class lithium-ion battery and a 52V-class battery do not use the same voltage limits.

Current and power

Current shows the electrical current flowing into or out of the battery. Power shows the rate of electrical energy transfer, measured in watts (W). During charging, current generally flows into the battery. During discharge, current flows from the battery to the controller or connected equipment.

High, low, average, and difference in cell voltage

  • High Volt: The highest individual cell-group voltage currently reported by the BMS.
  • Low Volt: The lowest individual cell-group voltage currently reported by the BMS.
  • Ave Volt: The average voltage across the monitored cell groups.
  • Diff Volt: The difference between the highest and lowest reported cell-group voltages.

These readings help you understand whether the cell groups are operating at similar voltages. The difference may change as the battery charges or discharges.

Battery status and temperature

Battery status shows the operating state reported by the BMS. Temperature readings may include the MOSFET temperature and one or more battery temperature sensors, depending on the hardware configuration.

If the app reports an abnormal condition, check the displayed status and contact us if you are unsure what it means. Do not ignore a protection warning or repeatedly reset a fault without understanding its cause.

Two-Minute Battery Self-Check

Before assuming your battery has a fault, check these four items in the app. This quick check can help you spot information worth sharing with support, but it cannot confirm battery health on its own.

  • 1. Total pack voltage: Does it make sense for your battery's nominal voltage and current charge level?
  • 2. Highest and lowest cell-group voltage: Check the “High Volt,” “Low Volt,” and “Diff Volt” readings. Compare them under similar conditions and look for an unusually large or persistent difference.
  • 3. Current: If the bike or equipment is switched off and the battery is not charging, check whether the current reading is close to what you would expect. Small readings can vary by BMS.
  • 4. Temperature and protection status: Check the temperature readings and whether the app shows an active alarm or protection warning.

Important: There is no single voltage, cell-difference, current, or temperature value that is correct for every battery. Limits depend on the cell chemistry, series count, BMS model, and operating conditions. If a warning persists or a reading looks unusual, take a screenshot and review the BOOANT Warranty Policy and support process before changing any settings.

2. BMS Voltage Protection Settings

Voltage protection helps prevent individual cell groups and the complete battery pack from operating outside their configured voltage limits. The JBD app may show separate protection, recovery, and delay settings.

Cell high-voltage protection and recovery

Cell high-voltage protection is triggered when a monitored cell group reaches its configured upper limit. Depending on the BMS configuration, charging may be stopped or restricted.

The recovery threshold determines when the voltage falls back into the permitted range and the BMS can allow charging to resume. A delay setting determines how long a condition must persist before protection is triggered.

Cell low-voltage protection and recovery

Cell low-voltage protection helps prevent excessive discharge. When a monitored cell group reaches its configured lower limit, the BMS may stop discharging. Recovery occurs when the voltage rises to the configured recovery threshold and the relevant recovery conditions are met.

Pack high- and low-voltage protection

Pack-level protection monitors the total battery voltage. High-voltage protection helps prevent charging beyond the configured pack limit, while low-voltage protection helps prevent excessive discharge.

Important: Do not copy the screenshot values into your battery

The voltage values shown in the screenshot are examples only. Correct settings depend on the cell chemistry, number of cells connected in series, cell manufacturer's specifications, and the battery design.

BOOANT configures the BMS before the battery leaves our facility. We recommend leaving these protection settings unchanged unless you have the correct technical specifications and understand the consequences of changing them.

3. BMS Current Protection Settings

Current protection helps protect the battery and BMS when charging or discharging current exceeds the configured limits. The app may include separate charging overcurrent, discharging overcurrent, secondary overcurrent, and short-circuit protection parameters.

Charging overcurrent protection

This setting helps protect the battery if charging current exceeds the configured threshold. A delay parameter may determine how long the overcurrent condition must last before the BMS acts.

Discharging overcurrent protection

This setting helps protect the battery when current drawn by the motor controller or other equipment exceeds the permitted limit. The protection threshold must be compatible with the BMS hardware, battery cells, wiring, and connectors.

Secondary overcurrent and short-circuit protection

Some JBD BMS models include additional overcurrent protection levels and short-circuit protection. These functions are intended to respond to more severe electrical faults. Their operation and settings vary by BMS model.

Example of current protection parameters. Actual thresholds and delay values depend on the installed BMS and battery configuration.

Do not increase current limits just to get more power

A higher current setting does not automatically make a battery capable of delivering more power safely. The cells, BMS, conductors, connectors, and battery construction must all support the intended current.

Changing current protection settings incorrectly can cause unexpected shutdowns, overheating, component damage, or other battery faults. Please contact BOOANT before making changes.

4. Temperature Protection Settings

Temperature protection helps prevent charging or discharging when the battery or related components are outside their configured temperature range.

High-temperature protection

The BMS can stop or restrict charging or discharging when a monitored temperature reaches the configured upper limit. A recovery threshold determines when operation may resume after the temperature falls.

Low-temperature protection

Low-temperature protection is especially important during charging. Charging lithium-ion cells outside their permitted temperature range can damage the cells and create safety risks.

The permitted temperature range depends on the specific cells and battery design. Do not assume that every lithium battery uses the same high- or low-temperature thresholds.

Temperature delay settings

Delay settings determine how long a temperature condition must remain outside the configured range before the BMS responds. Recovery may also depend on a separate temperature threshold and other configured conditions.

Our recommendation

Leave the factory temperature protection settings unchanged. If your battery regularly triggers temperature protection, stop using it if necessary and contact BOOANT to help identify the cause.

5. Cell Voltage Balance and Battery Status

Cell balancing helps keep the monitored cell groups at similar voltage levels. The BMS may balance cells when certain voltage and operating conditions are met.

Why individual cell voltages matter

A battery pack contains multiple cell groups connected in series and, where applicable, parallel. The BMS monitors the voltage of each series group. Comparing these readings can help identify voltage differences that may need attention.

Understanding voltage differences

A small voltage difference does not necessarily indicate a fault. Voltage readings naturally change with state of charge, current, temperature, and other operating conditions.

If the voltage difference becomes unusually large, persists after charging, or appears together with a protection warning, contact BOOANT before attempting to change balancing settings.

What cell balancing does not do

Cell balancing cannot repair a damaged cell, restore lost capacity, or make an unsuitable battery configuration safe. It is one part of the BMS protection and monitoring system.

6. Battery Information and BMS Parameters

The JBD app may provide a separate information or parameter screen. Depending on the BMS model and firmware, this area can show details such as the manufacturer, BMS model, firmware version, production information, and configurable protection parameters.

Why BMS information matters

The BMS model and firmware information can help identify the installed hardware when you need technical support. Not every model provides the same information, and some fields may be unavailable or displayed differently.

Can BMS parameters be changed?

Many parameters can be changed through the app when the installed BMS supports that function and the user has the required access. However, being able to edit a setting does not mean it should be changed.

BOOANT adjusts the relevant BMS settings for the battery configuration before shipment. Incorrect changes can cause charging or discharging problems, unexpected protection trips, or a battery that cannot operate as intended.

7. Bluetooth Name, MAC Address, and Password

The Bluetooth device name helps you identify the BMS when connecting through the app. Some JBD BMS models allow the Bluetooth name or access credentials to be changed.

Read this before changing the Bluetooth name

  • Record the original Bluetooth name and any displayed MAC address or other device identifier before making changes.
  • On the BMS configuration used for our batteries, changing the Bluetooth name may replace the original MAC-based identifier. The original name may not be recoverable through the app.
  • If you change the name, save the new name and any available device information in a safe place.
  • If you forget your password or need help diagnosing a fault, the JBD factory may be unable to recover the password or identify the device without sufficient device information.

Accessing BMS Settings

For the applicable configuration, the default settings access code is:

Default settings access code

123456

This access code applies to the specified configuration only. Other JBD BMS models or firmware versions may use different credentials.

Users may be able to change the account or password, depending on the app version and BMS configuration. If you change your credentials, keep a secure record of the new details.

Do not assume that resetting the app or reinstalling it will restore the original password. If you cannot access the BMS, contact BOOANT and provide your order details and all available device identifiers.

8. Important Safety Notes

A Bluetooth BMS app provides useful monitoring and configuration tools, but it is not a substitute for correct battery design, safe operation, or proper technical support.

  • Keep factory settings: Do not change voltage, current, temperature, or short-circuit protection parameters unless the changes have been confirmed as suitable for your battery.
  • Do not copy example values: The screenshots show example readings and settings, not a universal configuration for every battery.
  • Check your battery model: Battery voltage, series count, cell chemistry, BMS hardware, and current rating all affect the correct settings.
  • Save device information: Record the Bluetooth name and available device identifiers before changing them.
  • Take warnings seriously: If the BMS repeatedly enters protection mode, investigate the cause rather than repeatedly resetting the protection.
  • Ask before changing settings: If you are unsure what a parameter does, contact BOOANT before editing it.

Important note about the screenshots

All app screenshots in this article show the real JBD BMS interface. The numerical values are included for demonstration only. Actual values and available settings may differ according to battery series count, cell chemistry, current rating, BMS model, firmware, and factory configuration.

BOOANT configures the battery management system before shipment. We recommend that customers do not change the original protection settings without technical guidance. Incorrect settings can cause the battery to stop working properly or lead to battery and equipment faults.

Frequently Asked Questions
