BMS Discharge Current & Motor Matching

Don't guess your setup. Match your e-bike controller's amp draw and motor wattage with our pre-configured JBD Smart BMS setups. Selecting the right map ensures peak efficiency and prevents safety cut-offs under heavy loads.

Standard Setup
30A Continuous
For 250W - 900W Motors
Perfect for legal street e-bikes & commuters
Maximum runtime and lowest thermal buildup
Est. Range: 55 - 75+ miles (PAS mode)
Best Choice
High Range Sweet Spot
40A Continuous
For 800W - 1200W Motors
Tailored for cargo bikes & heavy utility loads
Ideal pairing for 1080Wh cell pack efficiency
Est. Range: 45 - 65 miles (Heavy load mixed)
Max Performance
50A Continuous
For 1000W - 1500W Motors
Built for custom e-trikes & high-torque DIY
Maximizes peak amp output without BMS tripping
Est. Range: 35 - 50 miles (Throttle-heavy riding)
Rider's Tech Note: Always make sure your e-bike controller's maximum current draw does not exceed the continuous rating of your chosen BMS. Running a 50A controller on a 30A BMS will trigger safety shut-offs under steep hill climbs.
FAQ
1. How do I know this heavy metal box will actually fit into my frame?
Look, the last thing we both want is for you to get this massive pack delivered only to find out it is an inch too big for your frame cargo slot. The exact physical layout is 300 by 190 by 90 mm. Do yourself a huge favor before spending your money: go grab a regular cardboard box from your garage, cut it down exactly to those dimensions, tape it up, and manually try shoving it into your bike frame or cargo tray. If that cardboard dummy box slides in comfortably with a bit of breathing room for the power wires, you are good to go.
2. My charger light goes from red to green, or sometimes flashes. What is it trying to tell me?
Do not overthink the charger lights, it is a pretty basic hardware setup. If you plug the charger into your living room wall but have not hooked it up to the battery yet, the light stays solid green just to show it is getting power from the wall. The second you plug it into your drained battery, it switches to solid red, which means it is actively pumping 5 amps into the pack. Once the cell matrix hits full capacity, the internal switch cuts off the power to keep things safe, and the light flips back to solid green. If you ever see it flashing red like crazy, something went wrong with your connection or the cell balance is off. Unplug it immediately and open up your JBD phone app to see what safety trigger got tripped.
3. Is there a real, noticeable difference between these Samsung cells and cheaper generic ones?
Yes, and you will notice it the very first time you hit a steep hill or load down your bike with heavy gear. Generic or low-grade cells look fine on paper, but as soon as you demand serious power from a 36V system, they sag. Your battery meter drops instantly, the pack gets hot, and your motor feels sluggish. Samsung 50G cells are commercial-grade. They hold their voltage stable under heavy loads, generate way less heat, and do not lose half their capacity after a single season of hard commuting. You are paying for a battery that actually lasts years instead of months.
4. Why should I buy this heavy metal case pack instead of a cheaper blue shrink-wrap one?
A blue PVC shrink-wrap battery is fine if it is hidden inside a hard plastic molded case on a city commuter bike. But if you are building a custom trike, a cargo rig, or mounting the battery somewhere exposed, shrink-wrap offers zero protection. All it takes is one loose rock thrown up by your front tire, or an accidental drop in the driveway, to puncture a cell and ruin your whole investment. This rigid metal enclosure acts like structural armor. It locks the cell groups tight, stops road vibrations from snapping the internal weld joints, and takes all the daily abuse of utility riding without breaking a sweat.
5. How exactly does the phone app connect, and what should I be looking at?
Go to your app store and download the JBD Xiaoxiang app. Turn on your phone bluetooth, turn your e-bike system on so the battery wakes up, and look for the device in the app list. You do not need to be a computer scientist to read it. Once you are in, look at the main screen. It shows your exact percentage, but more importantly, it shows you if all your cell groups are balanced at the same voltage and if the temperature is within safe limits while riding or charging. It is basically a live health window into your battery pack.
6. Can I get a specific type of discharge connector for my weird controller setup?
Yes, we do this all the time for DIY projects. The standard unit comes with high-quality power leads, but if your specific controller uses an older bullet connector, an Anderson plug, or an XT90 instead of an XT60, we can solder that on for you before shipping. Just make sure you write down exactly what plug style you need in the cart note box right before you check out, or message our staff immediately after ordering so the warehouse team does not ship out a standard unit by mistake.
7. I live in a cold area. What is the proper way to store this over the winter?
Lithium cells hate two things: sitting at dead empty for months, and sitting stuffed at 100 percent in a freezing garage. If you are putting the bike away for the winter, ride it around until the app shows about 50 or 60 percent capacity. Bring the pack inside your house where it is warm and dry. Leave it alone, but set a calendar reminder to plug it into the charger for about 30 minutes every two months just to give it a tiny top-up. When spring comes around, give it a full charge and you are ready to hit the road again.
